Actually, I didn’t replace Siouxsie, Thomas and Dahlia’s litter entirely. That would be silly. Instead, I conducted an experiment: I have four litterboxes, two of which are definitely more popular than others. I filled one popular box and one not-so-popular box with new World’s Best Cat Litter Forest Scented Clumping Formula and left their usual litter in the others.
Is the scent going to kill you? I’ll admit I was a little worried about using scented litter. First of all, I’ve never met a scented litter I liked. Even products touting their “mild” aroma are enough to make me gag — and cats’ super-sensitive noses must make a scented litter experience nothing less than a tour through hell.
BUT … I was pleasantly surprised to find that the forest scent in this new World’s Best Cat Litter formula really is mild! In fact, I can barely smell it at all. Why? The forest scent comes from the litter itself, not artificial fragrances: the litter is a combination of World’s Best Cat Litter’s usual whole-kernel corn and kiln-dried wood shavings that might otherwise have gone to waste. If you like the smell of corn and sawdust, you’ll really enjoy the aroma. (I’m a farm girl whose father and brother are carpenters, so those smells remind me of home and I really like them.)
How did the litter perform? This stuff clumps like concrete! I didn’t have any trouble removing waste from the boxes: everything came out in nice, solid packages, unlike other “clumping” litters I’ve used. Odor control is excellent.
How did the cats like it? They loved it! I wasn’t surprised that Siouxsie and Thomas did, because we have used World’s Best Cat Litter’s original formula in the past. Bella, I wasn’t so sure about, since this product was completely new to her. But all three cats took to the litter, and judging from the output I’ve cleaned out of the boxes, they definitely prefer the World’s Best Cat Litter Forest Scented Clumping Formula to the other brand I’m using.
The bottom line: World’s Best Cat Litter Forest Scented Clumping Formula gets 4 paws up from the cats and 4 paws up from me. The cats loved the litter and used it with no complaints (and, in fact, seem to like it better than the one I was using before), and I love the product’s performance and mellow scent.
Full disclosure: I received a free 12-pound bag of World’s Best Cat Litter Forest Scented Clumping Formula, but I have not received and will not receive any further compensation. The opinions expressed here are my own, and your results — along with your opinion of the product — may vary.
Our kitties loved it too, They love to rub on our shoes after we have been outside gardening and stuff, so they seemed to really like the scent of this litter!
I noticed when I used a straight corn litter, I was finding it everywhere. Did you have any issues with your cats tracking it around the house?
Do you know if it is sold in New Zealand… Sounds exactly what I need.
I bought some clumping litter, that was supposed to smell like a pine forrest and the cats hated it… wouldnt use it. I had three litter trays for two cats and man they avoided the sure avoided the lovely, pine smelling, clumping tray… unbelieveable.
I don’t know, Gail. Because it’s made of corn and made in the US, there may be import restrictions — most countries don’t seem to want plant material from other nations getting through their borders — but it would be worth checking the New Zealand versions of online outlets like amazon.com, PetSmart, etc., to see if they sell it. It is sold online in the US through Amazon, PetSmart, Drs. Foster & Smith, Petflow and the like.
Hi there! I use the one they have at Costco… the Qualicat. I found that it doesn’t have a lot of dust, all things considered, and clumps quite nicely, always a bonus for clean-up. The odour control is also exceptional. I think going for a non-clumping or organic litter is really a matter of personal conviction and choice.
